AZAN residency program aims to welcome artists and introduce them to the Lisbon art scene with the feeling of a shared studio where artists can collaborate, share ideas and develop their work and research. Dialogue and experimentation are encouraged and projects related to the studio and its surroundings are welcomed. The key is to bring artists into a cultural context different from their own, in which they can thrive on cultural and social discourse and explore their own work, giving artists the opportunity to present their work and research.

Description de l’environnement géographique : ased in an industrial building in Marvila, the south-east of Lisbon, surrounded by an artistic environment full of independent spaces, artists studios and galleries.
Commodités (wifi, tv, teléphone…) : General Private bedroom with double bed Shared studio, kitchen and bathroom Informal and welcoming atmosphere The artistic lodging is best suited for artists, but curators, writers and filmmakers are also welcome to apply Stays between 1 to 6 month; the applicant should indicate the preferred date of stay; and the intended studio area: 70 m2 or 100 m2 Maximum capacity: one person; AZAN has currently only 1 room for the residency Room 14 m2 Furnished (double bed, desk, closet, drawer dresser, bedside table) Air conditioner Sheets and towels included and change every 15 days; Cleaning once a week included Shower & toilet Access to a fully equipped kitchen with washing machine Extra services under request Studio Equipped with a table, a two seat sofa, a coffee table, chairs and a floor lamp and some basic tools Option I: 70 m2 Option II: 100 m2 Note: This is a warehouse. Temperatures can be hotter in the summer and cooler in the winter Conditions Water, electricity and wi-fi included in the fee Option I: Room + 70 m2 studio area Option II: Room + 100 m2 studio area Note: the resident artist has to find their own sponsor to cover the expenses. A security deposit is required in advance to reserve the space.

Souhaits en échange de la résidence (ex: cours, oeuvres, concerts, invitation, diner, texte…) : Residents are encouraged to organize a talk, a work presentation, a happening, a pop-up exhibition during their stay and participate in the zines project. All the events are organized between the artist and AZAN team, in a case-by-case basis.

    Kabutar in Urdu is translated as pigeon or dove which is a universal symbol of love, peace and freedom. Civilizations in ancient Egypt, Rome, Greece, and South Asia used messenger pigeons over 3,000 years ago. In India before partition, pigeons were trained to deliver letters to lover and as messengers. Our current state of the world is suffering from wars and genocides. Many countries are surviving the ordeal of wars at present and many have survived wars in the past. Every country has an inimitable visual culture which serves as a universal language for identity, resilience and hope for their nation. Kabutar is an initiative to collaborate with artists from different countries with Pakistan who carry a message of peace and harmony in art forms. For the exhibition in 2019, artists have created work under certain specification to manage the logistics. Each work carries a message of harmony and tranquility to influence political impact in a peaceful language of visual arts. At present, Kabutar has been evolved as an artist residency to collaborate and produce work with Pakistani artist and host of the residency. Artist will be living and producing work at the studio which are located in her apartment. This apartment has hosted various foreign travelers during last few years hence it fulfills the necessary requirements. Visits to local galleries, jamming sessions by musicians and theatre events can be organized for the visiting artist. About Mehreen Hashmi Mehreen Hashmi is a Karachi-based visual artist and curator with a Fine Arts degree from the Indus Valley School. She has curated exhibitions, including the Karachi Art Summit, and has exhibited her work globally in the last 17 years. She has received multiple honors and actively promotes cultural exchange and public art projects in Pakistan and Europe. www.mehreenhashmi.com Residency fee 300 USD is to cover the accomadation, and living cost. In case of an event, extra funds will be required depending on the chosen venue. Its a self-hosted artist residency hence we do not have any funds. An invitation letter can be provided in case of applying for grants.

    Description de l’espace La résidence, qui a notamment accueilli la musicienne Marina Mauriello, est désormais dédiée à des projets de recherche dans le champ de l’art contemporain. Située dans le quartier de Cannaregio, elle donne sur un large Rio Terà entre Ca’ d’Oro et Fondamenta Nuove, dans un secteur authentique et calme de la Venise historique. L’espace dispose d’une entrée indépendante et se déploie sur deux niveaux. Au rez-de-chaussée se trouvent un studio d’environ 20 m² avec accès direct à la calle, un laboratoire/atelier pour artistes et une salle de bain. À l’étage, une grande salle d’environ 40 m², avec une hauteur sous plafond de 3 mètres, convient aux expositions, rencontres et activités de recherche, avec une grande liberté pour les installations et l’accrochage des œuvres. Une maison d’hôtes intérieure est également disponible, avec trois chambres et deux salles de bain pour accompagner les résidences d’artistes. Esprit du lieu La résidence n’est pas un hébergement touristique classique, mais un espace pensé pour accueillir artistes, commissaires, chercheurs, musiciens et professionnels de la culture, dans un environnement privé et immersif dédié au développement de projets créatifs et de recherche. La maison d’hôtes est disponible exclusivement dans le cadre des activités de résidence artistique.
