Artist/Psychotherapist and Musician, bringing creativity and healing together – Other

Elise Goldstein is an American-born researcher in the field of Intra-Personal Communication – the study of how inner-dialogue shapes the creation of self, identity, and perception. This research has led her through a variety of disciplines, from shamanism to psychoanalysis, from auto-ethnography to performance art. She has a background in printmaking, painting, sculpture, book-arts, and photography. Elise was awarded her Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institution of Chicago in 2010 (in Sculpture) and a Post-Graduate Research certificate from the Royal Institute of Cinema, Theatre & Sound, Brussels, in 2012. Since then, she has been working mainly as a creative arts therapist.

 

Remi Confida is a French musician, sound therapist, educator and Tai Chi teacher. Through his experience as a musician, paired with his background in martial arts, he has developed a strong sensitivity and awareness of energetic, bodily vibration. Both disciplines emphasize attunement, first with oneself and then with others. This capacity is integral in the field of education, especially when working with children with special needs; through this work, he has developed a sense of clarity regarding personal and physical boundaries, and an expertise in nonverbal communication. He is presently developing music for a new album.

Propositions artistiques en échange de la résidence (oeuvres, cours, ateliers, dîner, concert...) : Elise is very happy to offer a work of art (either site-specific installation or wall-hanging). I prefer to think of the process as collaborative and would prefer to know the wishes for the location, dimensions, even potentially palette, media or thematic. The work would be informed by the host and the hosts' environment/atmosphere. Remi can offer tai chi lessons, concerts, or the creation of a song for the host.
Description environment are you looking for ( nature, urban, other…) : Open. Preferably in France.
Describe your projects for a residence : Elise is working on developing a project which includes focusing on collecting wisdom (through interviews) with people who have received terminal medical diagnoses (people in the process of dying). The wisdom from these interviews is translated in painted textual documents. I need time to develop the methodology further. It is quiet, but beautifully contemplative work, to be accompanied by drawings and painting of images to support. Remi is returning to the process of writing music for a new album. His music is inspired by many genres: gypsy-swing, folk-rock, reggae, flamenco, hip hop... He plays the guitar, cajon, hang/handpan, didgeridoo and sings.
