Gašper Jemec – Visual arts

Gašper Jemec was born on 25th of October 1975 in Kranj, Republic of Slovenia, former SFR Yugoslavia. He enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, where he studied painting and new medias both as an undergraduate and as a graduate student. Jemec also did graduate work in painting at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in America. As a Herder scholarship winner of Alfred Toepfer Stiftung FVS from Hamburg, he further trained in sculpture at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. His work has been widely exhibited in solo and group shows all over the world, from Slovenia to America, Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom. He has resided and worked in Indiana, Los Angeles, New York, Vienna, Hamburg, Sakaide, Valencia, Moscow and London.

Description environment are you looking for ( nature, urban, other…) : I like any environment as long as it is new and inspiring to me; both urban and rural or small town places.
Describe your projects for a residence : I express myself using various visual materials and am author whose personal philosophy and recent works are articulating the idea of manifesting the possibility of diverse approaches coming out from one person. I am highly devoted to ultimative expressions of authenticity as with every new work I try to avoid my own ego and try to bring to life a pure work that is mostly related to an idea of a specific momentum. I'm also trying to do what it seems to me most futuristic, confronting the reality in conservative global art market with being myself highly unpredictable artist, purely devoted only to what it comes and makes sense to me in terms of absolute freedom and on-site situation. That is also why I like to do site-specific work and location, local culture and its specifics are substance that I need and use in my work.

    Hello everyone, I am a Franco-Swiss artist, and my work is inspired by natural forms, especially water. I have created two series in direct contact with rain or waves. I love discovering new places and meeting wonderful people. I have exhibited in many different venues and galleries in Paris and New York, and recently had an exhibition in Taiwan. I am preparing my next exhibition. I am calm, respectful, independent and warm. I lived for a long time in New York and Lausanne, and I enjoy reconnecting with France.
